Grace Brennan

“Journaling reminds me to let go of past beliefs and focus on the future I want to build.”

Grace Brennan is a music journalist whose work spans both print and digital publications, including Songwriting Magazine, Holler Country, HouseNest, and Building Our Own Nashville—outlets that appeal to songwriters, artists, music professionals, teachers, and fans. Brennan is also a contributor to Business Insider and manages her own Substack publication Stuff on Songwriting, where she shares an analysis of contemporary lyrics and showcases the songwriters behind them to her growing following. She is represented by Europa Content.

Her reporting has taken her internationally to cover songwriting camps, interview songwriters and producers, and document the behind-the-scenes process of song creation. She is also a songwriter herself and a two-time “One to Watch” honoree by NSAI (Nashville Songwriters Association International).

As a music writer, I started my journey toward traditional publishing over three years ago. It took time, persistence, and plenty of lessons along the way, but today I’m fortunate to work with an agent who truly supports my writing and vision.

In this workshop, I’ll share why I chose the traditional publishing path over self-publishing (and when self-publishing might be the better fit), how I found and pitched my agent, what a strong agent query should include, and what I’ve learned from working together throughout the publishing process. I’ll also cover common mistakes to avoid (from querying too soon to falling for vanity publishers) and offer any other advice from one first-time author to the next.

Whether you’re dreaming of writing your first book or already have a manuscript in progress, this workshop is for anyone interested in understanding the traditional publishing path and taking the next step toward becoming an author.
