“Life is for Loving”
Rachel Ferguson is a Scottish poet, speaker and reflective writing guide.
Her work explores the intersection of psychology, philosophy, and creativity, helping people enjoy a richer experience of life through metacognition and self-understanding.
After studying Literature and Sociology in Scotland, she spent twenty years building a life in Tokyo, across roles from journalism to education, all centred on communication and connection. Living between languages and cultures sparked a lasting curiosity about ways of thinking and meaning-making.
She holds degrees from the Universities of Edinburgh, Sheffield, and Strathclyde, and is the author of a poetry collection, Thoughts on Waking, and a children’s bedtime book, Gugu and Penfin Sleep. She splits her time between Tokyo and rural Scotland, ideally reading in a hammock, walking in the woods, or dancing in the kitchen with her kids.

This keynote explores romanticising life through subtle shifts in perception. I believe we can enhance the poetry already present in our daily lives by zooming in on the ordinary and writing it into meaning.
I invite audiences to reclaim narrative agency, to uncover deeper emotional intimacy in everyday moments, and to remember that they are not bystanders in their story, but its narrator.
Romanticising isn’t a retreat from reality. It’s a conscious act of meaning-making, and an invitation to fall back in love with the life you’re already living.
