Supriya Rakesh

“The page is my safe space, a gentle witness who holds everything. On the page, I don’t have to hold back, hold in anything.”

Supriya is a writer, teller, and space-holder of stories, both lived and imaginary. She has a PhD in organisational behaviour and is published in Litro, Setu Billingual, Kitaab, various anthologies and academic journals. As a creative facilitator, she brings in her childhood love for dreaming and poetry, her background in human psychology and narrative research, and the paradoxes and plot twists in her own life story. At this festival, her workshop will centre the ‘storied self’, through an exploration of memory, shadow, imagination and play.

Originally from Mumbai, Supriya now lives in Amsterdam where she is working on her first novel while contemplating the meaning of home. She started journaling as a little girl, and her practise expanded in recent years, offering creative nourishment through moments of challenge and transition. Her work emphasises intuitive writing as a healing, spiritual and liberating practice.

Orange popsicles carry memories of our childhood—sweet and sour, sticky and messy, of youthful abandon and carefree summers. In this reflective workshop, we will dive into these memories to uncover and reshape stories for the now. We will connect with the spirit of childhood, with curiosity, mischief, innocence and play. We will indulge in nostalgia for our younger days and selves, revisiting a specific time, place and season in our lives. Here, we will find inspiration for a specific story, bringing in imagination, atmosphere and the wisdom of hindsight. We will re-write and share our stories, recovering fragments of self, that we have intentionally or accidentally, left behind. Participants will return with joy in their hearts, a loved inner child, and a zesty new personal story.
